It says there is an existing account associated with the contact email address that I am trying to add.

The contact email address you are trying to add to your account is already associated with another Facebook account. Please note that you can only have one Facebook account per email address. If you proceed to add the new email address, then the original Facebook account associated with that email address will be removed from the site. If you believe you are receiving this message in error, please click here.

It says there is an existing account associated with my email address.

Please click here to request a new password for your account.

If you are not the account owner and are attempting to sign up for an account, then please be aware that you can only sign up for one Facebook account per email address. Email addresses are offered for free by many websites (e.g., Yahoo!, Gmail). If you believe you are receiving this message in error then please click here.

I tried to use the Friend Finder, but it says I have an unsupported email.

At this time, the Friend Finder is capable of looking directly at email address books for certain email domains (e.g., @hotmail.com). If the error message, "Unsupported Email Address" appears, then this feature cannot automatically look at the address book of your email address to find your friends.

However, you can still use this feature if your email client (the program you use to read your email) allows you to export your contacts list as a .csv, .vcf, or .txt file. Uploading this file to Facebook will allow us to use it to tell you which of your contacts are on the site. For more detailed instructions on how to do this with specific clients, please see the bottom of the Friend Finder page.

In the future, we hope to expand the feature's capabilities to serve the needs of a wider range of users. In the meantime, please feel free

I received an account creation email, but I'm already registered.

If you have received a Facebook account confirmation email in error, it's likely that someone has mistakenly attempted to register using your email address. As long as you do not click the link contained in the email, no action will be taken, and no account will be created.

It says my email address is invalid.

Unfortunately we do not support email addresses with generic prefixes (e.g. info@, webmaster@ etc.). Since email addresses of this nature are typically used for organizations and businesses, we do not allow them to be used for personal Facebook accounts. You will need to use a personal email address that does not contain this type of prefix. There are no exceptions to this rule.

I want to change my name.

You can submit a name change request through the "Name" section of your Account Settings page. Please note that Facebook reviews each name change request that is submitted. Due to the volume of requests we receive, your request may not be processed immediately.

Please note that Facebook account names must adhere to the following authenticity standards:
  • Your full first and last name must be listed. Nicknames can be listed if they are a variation of your first or last name, but only in the format "First Name ‘Nickname’ Lastname."
  • Accounts are for personal use only. To represent a celebrity, business or brand, please create a Facebook Page. Pages are for representing a real public figure, artist, brand or organization, and may only be created by an official representative of that entity. For more information about Facebook Pages, please click here.
  • Professional and religious titles are not allowed in account names.
  • You can list your maiden name as your alternate name on the Account Settings page. Please note that account names that include "was," "nee" and "formerly" are not allowed.
  • Accounts can represent one person only. Accounts representing groups, families or couples are not allowed.

Facebook reviews every name change request before it is approved. If your name change request is rejected, it could be because our systems have mistakenly prevented the change. If your real, full first and last name has been rejected, you can submit your request for further review by clicking here.

Facebook reviews every name change request before it is approved. If your real, full first and last name has been rejected, you can submit your request for further review. Please select the option that best describes your issue:
  • I'm already registered, but I need to change my name: Please submit your name change request and allow 24 hours for the submission to be approved. Facebook reviews each name change request that is submitted. Due to the volume of requests we receive, your request may not be processed immediately. If you have already submitted the request and the 24 hours have expired, please submit your report to Facebook.
  • I'm trying to sign up for a new account to use as a personal profile: While signing up for a personal profile, please ensure that your full name does not contain any invalid punctuation and that it contains a full last name. If you're still having problems signing up for a personal profile, please submit a report.
  • I'm trying to register a presence for a business, product, or public figure: We do not allow these entities to maintain personal profiles, but you can create a Facebook Page. Pages can only be created to represent a real public figure, artist, brand or organization, and may only be created by an official representative of that entity. Find out more about Facebook Pages.

My confirmation email doesn’t arrive.

Please follow the steps below to resolve this issue:
  • Check your email application's spam or junk folder or filter. Please be aware that some emails may be blocked by your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
  • Check that you’re trying to log in from the exact email address you registered with. A common error is registering with an incorrect email domain (e.g., @comcast.com is not the same as @comcast.net). In addition, keep in mind that email addresses never begin with a "www" prefix.
If you're still having trouble after the above steps, please click here.

I've heard Facebook is going to charge to use the site? Is this true?

No, Facebook will never require that you pay to continue using the site.
